Before we go any further, I should mention a few things. Kind of set the record straight from the beginning…
For years, I’ve been an author, journalist, and activist in Los Angeles, California. I’ve learned many things about life, power, and how the world operates, and I thought I should share those things at Substack, with my own unique point of view.
I also thought, during these divisive times around the world, I could start an inclusive global community through Substack.
And so we have Letters From Over Here.
We’re clearly trying to do something righteous here, but I’m not a leader of that righteous thing. I’m just instigating it. (Read the “About” page for details.)
For my part at Letters From Over Here, I’m going to write about whatever feels right. I may write, for example, about taking a trip to the post office. That may not seem inspiring, but seemingly minor things can pack a whole bunch of inspiration (and beauty), if you can open up and see it.
I like to have fun and use humor. I can’t be serious all the time. It ends up hurting at some point.
I’m flawed. I try to be righteous. I try to do the right thing. I try to walk the walk, not just talk the talk. But I’m flawed. I’ve been flawed in the past, I’m flawed right now, and I’ll be flawed in the future.
But I am trying to grow and improve and expand, and Letters From Over Here will undoubtedly play a role in that. And perhaps you’ll grow and improve and expand with me at Letters From Over Here.
I want to make the world a better place in my own humble way, but that can be done in all kinds of ways. Just writing a funny story can make the world a better place.
I am not an ideologue. From my experience as a journalist and activist, I’ve seen that ideology doesn’t help things all that much. We can get into that further another time. Just know that I’m not an ideologue.
But, I’m for fairness and justice and equality and freedom and peace and inclusivity and all that good stuff.
I prefer to write about what I’m for rather than what I’m against.
Who knows if it will ever get to this point, but the cult of personality isn’t accepted here. It has caused way too many problems in this world.
In the end, through my work and my life, I’ve seen a lot, I’ve done a lot, and I’ve done a lot of thinking. So I have something unique to share, something that may help you – one way or another. And I’m sure you’ll have things to share that will help me.
Letters From Over Here is a community (a world in a way) where people can feel safe and inspired and human. I think we need to have that kind of place for people right now, and probably into the future.
Young, Middle-Aged, Old, Black, Brown, White, Yellow, Red, Female, Male, Non-Binary, Straight, Gay, Lesbian, Bi, Trans, Working Class, Middle Class, Upper Class, Africans, Asians, Australians, Europeans, North Americans, South Americans, and Everyone Else. All are welcome here.
Let’s just make sure we’re good to each other.
I think that’s probably most of it. There may be more. If so, I’ll bring it up later.
